Single-use plastic straws are a huge contributor to ocean pollution. Some of the most powerful imagery I have seen highlighting the impact of plastic on the environment has involved straws - a great example of this is the video of a marine biologist pulling a straw out of a turtle’s nose, the last place we should be finding a straw. 

Because they are made from plastic, you can be sure that every straw you have ever used still exists today and will be around for hundreds of years to come.

CaliWoods straws were an early addition to my reusable collection, and because they easily fit in my handbag I take them with me everywhere, meaning that I can be prepared for any straw related situation when I’m out and about.

Material

• 304, food-grade stainless steel - 18/8 (18% Chromium and 8% Nickel) with a 0.5mm thickness
• Wool Bristles - Natural Fibre
• Cotton

Care

Rinse under the tap after use, use the natural fibre brush to clean the inside. You can also pop them in the dishwasher, another reason why I love these.

End of life

The straws themselves should last a lifetime, however, if for whatever reason they become unusable, make sure you dispose of them responsibly. Stainless Steel is 100% recyclable, so make sure you find out where the nearest recycling location is to you.

For the natural fibre brush, first cut off the natural fibre bristles and dispose of in your compost, then recycle the stainless-steel handle.
