What it replaces & why we love it

Yip that’s right every plastic toothbrush ever used, still exists today. The average lifespan for a toothbrush is only 3 to 4 months, which means one person sends roughly 237 toothbrushes to landfill in their lifetime.

Bamboo is naturally antibacterial, can be sustainably grown, and does not require any pesticides or insecticides to grow. It is also easily composted in your home compost or in a commercial facility, so makes a great alternative to plastic handled toothbrushes.

Materials

• Bamboo handle - Bamboo can grow up to 1 metre a day and does not require watering, pesticides or insecticides, making it an organic and super sustainable resource
• Nylon bristles - The bristles are made out of nylon 6, which is a dental grade material and currently the only material available for toothbrush bristles that will clean teeth to a hygienic standard and keep them healthy

Care

A bamboo toothbrush may require a little bit more care than your conventional plastic one.  Ensure you keep it dry and rinse well after cleaning your teeth. We would not recommend leaving it in the shower, as the excessive moisture may reduce its life.

End of life

Rather than throwing your old toothbrush away at the end of its life, you can keep it for cleaning bathroom tiles (which is what I do) or even use it to label plants in your garden. People have lots of uses for old bamboo toothbrushes, so check out what will work best for you.

If you are disposing of your old toothbrush, the bamboo handle is compostable at home or in a commercial facility. You will need to remove the nylon bristles first by using a pair of pliers to pull them out. The bristles will need to go to landfill we collect them in a storage container (something we would have sent to landfill anyway) to avoid them getting lose and into our waterways.

Product Packaging

Each toothbrush is packaged in a cardboard box which can be recycled locally, composted at home or in a commercial facility. And if you can repurpose it then do that first.

How they come packaged to us

Simple, these guys were delivered to us in a cardboard box with masking tape and chilling inside on their own. We will reuse this box to send out our eco goodies.
